Viet Nam in Drug Control Multilateral Cooperation Within Mekong Sub-Region

Recently, “narcotic drugs” has become a major threat to mankind. Its consequences have impacted every country worldwide. “Narcotic drugs” is not only the origin of crimes but also is the main factor of complicated social evil issues, which seriously affect development, stability and perpetual existence of all nations. The “noticeably super-profit” characteristic of illicit drugs has led to a rise of many dangerous types of crimes, organized crimes and transnational crimes. Drug-related criminals have turned Mekong sub-region with “the golden triangle area” into one of the most largest illicit drugs markets in the world, with an aim to organize transnational drugs trafficking and control all activities of planting, collecting, transporting, storing and illegally consuming narcotics. This paper focuses on Viet Nam’s endeavors in multilateral cooperation for drug control within the Mekong sub-region.
