Japan’s Policy towards the East Asia: Implications and Cooperations Perspective for Viet Nam

In recent years, Japan has been loudly voicing the South China Sea/the East Sea issue in its diplomatic affairs as well as carrying out various capacity building schemes for coastal states in the region. Japan sees the South China Sea/the East Sea disputes affect the East China Sea disputes and the global maritime order that it has to get involved in. In executing its policy, Japan seeks the cooperation with its allies and partners in the region to have collective diplomatic activities on the international forums and provide capacity assistance to the coastal states. As one of the main claimant state in the region, Viet Nam benefits mainly from diplomatic support as well as maritime capacity building from Japan. The potential for bilateral cooperation between the two countries can be furthered even more when both Viet Nam and Japan understand mutual policy and needs.
