Analysis of Dittmer’s Theory on Strategic Triangle

This paper discusses the “strategic triangle” theorised by Lowell Dittmer in 1981 and based on the relationships between the three superpowers in the Cold War – the United States, the Soviet Union and China. The theory provides a systematic approach to the study of triangular relationships at the system level. However, it is not relevant to the in-depth study of policy process at the nation state level.
